The Malibu Lodge

Camp Josepho is nestled into remote Rustic Canyon near the beaches of Pacific Palisades and Malibu in the Santa Monica Mountains. The camp offers a traditional camp setting of years gone by featuring an old western style lodge and cow trails that follow the old creek bed to cozy campsites stretching through the canyon wilderness.

Activity areas include an olympic size pool with flush toilets and hot showers, a separate range for BB shooting, rifle and archery and an outdoor setting for campfires, nature and Scoutcraft.

Camp Josepho was given to the Crescent Bay District, BSA, in 1941 by Anatol and Ganna Josepho as an expression of gratitude to his adopted land. Since that time Camp Josepho has been used by scouts and scouters, schools, and religious and community organizations for day, weekend and weeklong retreats. Well over 1 million scouts have stayed at Camp Josepho.

A view from the state park

With its many hiking trails, this 110 acre camp boasts 2 large family campgrounds and 5 smaller campsites, a large parade ground, a barbecue area with picnic tables, an Olympic size, handicap accessible pool with showers and changing rooms, a lodge hall with kitchen, an archery range with archery equipment available, and a rifle range with rifles and BB guns available. (Rifle range users are required to have qualified supervision and supply their own ammo.)

An interesting new activity available at Camp Josepho is Frisbee Golf. See the Ranger for details.) Also, there is an amphitheater with a gas fired campfire for campfire programs or awards programs. Camp Josepho has a resident ranger at the camp.

The Lodge has a large main hall that has a stage, a commercial kitchen, a conference room, billiard room, 4 classrooms, and rest rooms with showers.

Family Campground

One of the large campgrounds in the lower half of the Camp. Imagine an Eagle Court of Honor in this quiet and serene location! There are no open fires are allowed in camp. Camp stoves are acceptable, as are charcoal stoves except during periods of extreme fire hazard.

Located just off the 405 San Diego Freeway near the towns of Brentwood and Santa Monica, Camp Josepho is accessed from Sunset Blvd. via Capri and Casale. The camp is gated with regularly changed gate codes required for access. Part of the journey into camp traverses a fire road which is open to hikers and cyclists. There are a number of blind curves on the road, and, for safety, drivers must extend courtesies to other people on the road. The speed limit on the road is 10 mph. All drivers into Camp Josepho are required to send a completed road waiver form to the Council office before driving into camp. We request that you arrange car pooling if at all possible (parking is limited in camp).

Reservations should be made through the Council office camping department at 818/785-8700 ext.130. Reservations may be made up to 6 months in advance. A non-refundable deposit of $25 is required. The balance of fees is to be paid to the ranger at camp. Units are required to have the Ranger check out their campsite prior to departure.
